Hialeah Man Wins Seven Mile Bridge Run
One of my proudest achievements has been running the 7-Mile Bridge Run, four times. I actually ran in the very first one! Though my times were certainly nothing to brag about, the experience certainly has been!! I have as well, enjoyed the rare opportunity to participate in the race going both directions! East to West and West to East. It truly is amazing running with the Gulf to one side you and Atlantic on the other. As you crest the hump of the bridge, high above the water, you can see the beautiful hues of color that change between the flats and channels. Magnificent Beauty! Though I did not run the race this year, I was certainly there in spirit!!!
Below are excerpts from an article that I saw in Keysnet.com:
"Hialeah lifeguard Daniel Martin, 27, won Saturday's 30th annual Seven Mile Bridge Run in the Middle Florida Keys, finishing in 38 minutes, 59 seconds. That's a 5-minute, 44-second mile pace.
Winning a fifth overall women's title was Marlene Persson, 40, a physical therapy technician from Deerfield Beach, with a time of 42:28.
Second- and third-place finishers in men's were Chad Wilkinson of West Palm Beach and Gary Gates of Melbourne Beach. Nancy Frey of Boca Raton placed second among women and Helena Bursa of Big Pine Key was third.
Not competing was the men's overall winner for the past five of six years. Jason Bodnar, a Biltmore Lake, N.C., dentist who has a mild phobia of crossing bridges"
